“28 Years Later” Early Filming Reports

Filming is underway on Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later,” the long in the works sequel to his viral zombie feature “28 Days Later” and “28 Weeks Later”.

Filming is taking place across the northeast of England with The BBC reporting that film crews have been seen all over the area including Newcastle, Kielder Forest and a large contingent on Holy Island for the past three weeks.

Hundreds of people from the island have responded to a call for extras to play a hoard of rage-filled ‘zombies’ in crowd scenes being shot there. Filming is expected to continue throughout the Summer.

The project marks a reunion of celebrated filmmakers Boyle and Alex Garland who are directing and writing the film respectively.

Garland will also pen the next two films and “Candyman” director Nia DaCosta will direct the second feature. The plan is to shoot at least the first two films almost back to back.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer will star with original film star Cillian Murphy to executive produce and potentially cameo.

Story specifics remain tightly under wraps. The film will hit cinemas in June 2025.
