7 Days To Die ‘1.0’ Launches To Five-Star Xbox Reviews, Despite Series S Grumbles
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

It’s all been happening pretty fast, but 7 Days To Die 1.0 is now available on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S! This is a brand-new version of the game for consoles that’s significantly improved compared to the Xbox One release.

As we’ve mentioned before, the 2016 edition of 7 Days To Die for Xbox was a stripped down experience, as it stopped getting updates a year later. However, with the new 1.0 release, the developer is attempting to “keep parity” with PC:

“We made the decision early on to focus on a ‘new’ version of the game that is unified with our PC version, and our efforts to update the game post-launch will be entirely focused on that version.”

It’s still very early days for 7 Days To Die 1.0 on Xbox, but the initial reviews on the Xbox Store are extremely positive! As things stand, the game has a 4.6/5 rating on the US version of the store, and 4.9/5 in the UK.

We all know that the Xbox Store isn’t always the best place to get your reviews from, but clearly there’s a lot of love for 7 Days To Die 1.0 from buyers so far. Here are a couple of the more detailed impressions we’ve spotted:

Xbox Store Review: “Graphics are great, lots more fighting styles and a more interactive environment. Different creatures to fight. Whats not to like? So far I have found nothing to be disappointed with. There is so much more depth to this game. The trader jobs are a fantastic addition. This rocks. Worth the wait.”

Xbox Store Review: “Runs great on the Series X. Massive improvement and a huge win for console. Does have KB&M. Sound design is awesome. So many QoL improvements if you’re upgrading from the old version. A few minor hiccups in frame rate and lighting, nothing that can’t be ironed out in a patch. Overall it runs smooth, so much smoother than I figured day 1 would. Happy for The Fun Pimps and the community. Worth every penny.”

Despite the many positives, we’re also seeing some grumbles about the Xbox Series S version. Not only does the frame rate appear to struggle more on Microsoft’s lesser-powered console, but it also only allows players to host two-player online games. If you want four players, you need someone with a Series X to host it instead:

The other thing to be aware of is that certain features are missing from the Xbox version for now. This includes crossplay support and randomly generated maps. Here’s how the team describes it in their FAQ:

“Console Edition will have some limitations, including:

Random Gen: The Console Edition will launch with a collection of pregenerated maps and the Navezgane experience. However, Random Gen will come in a patch soon after launch.

Level/Prefab Editor and World Editor: The console edition will not launch with the level or world editor..

Internet Connection/Server Connection: At launch, the console edition will be restricted to peer-to-peer games on the same platform. As mentioned in the Crossplay section above, we intend to release Crossplay in Update 1, barring any certification requirements or technical hurdles.

Overall though, it’s a positive start for 7 Days To Die 1.0 on Xbox, and keep in mind that if you owned the previous version for Xbox One, you get a 25% discount for the next 30 days. For everyone else, the game is available on the Xbox Store right now for £37.49 / $44.99. If you’ve bought it, tell us what you think in the comments!
