After taking a break from their Peace Out tour while frontman Steven Tyler recovers from damaged vocal cords, Aerosmith announces his injuries are ‘more serious than we thought’ and postpones the rest of their 2023 shows until 2024.
Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler was under strict doctor’s orders not to sing for at least 30 days after damaging his vocal cords during a performance on their Peace Out farewell tour. But now the band reveals that Tyler’s injuries are more severe, requiring them to postpone the rest of their 2023 dates until next year.
“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care,” says the band in a statement posted to their social media.
“As a result, all the currently scheduled Peace Out shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more,” the statement continues. Steven Tyler adds his own message: “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers, and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”
Initially, only the remaining September dates on the tour were rescheduled to January and February next year, with performances planned across the US throughout the rest of 2023 through December 31.
Previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled September dates, with refunds available at the point of purchase. While not yet confirmed, this will most likely be the case for tickets purchased for the rest of the rescheduled tour.
“We’ll need to postpone a few dates so that we can come back and give you the performance you deserve,” read a statement from Tyler, who said he was “heartbroken” to have received strict doctor’s orders to rest after he damaged his vocal cords during only the third show of Aerosmith’s nationwide farewell tour.
