Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea drew 1-1 today in their first group stage match as part of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
The first group stage match took place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, that country’s capital city.

Nigeria attempted to take an early lead with a long shot less than a minute after kickoff, but the keeper saved it.
Guinea’s forward Ivan Salvador scored his team’s first goal in the 36th minute with a left-footed shot that the keeper couldn’t save.

Nigeria, on the other hand, responded quickly, tying the score two minutes later with a header from striker Victor Osimhen, bringing the first half to a close at 1-1.
The game ended in a draw after both teams missed numerous chances in the second half, particularly Nigeria.
Nigeria will play its second group stage match against Cote d’Ivoire on January 18. The two teams will face off at 6:00 p.m. in Ebimpe’s Olympic stadium.
