UK music start up Setmixer has raised $760,000 in a seed funding round. Setmixer gives artists the ability to record and mix live performances with assistance from AI.
Touring and performing live is how most artists make their living, which is why Setmixer was founded in late 2021 by industry veteran Pascal de Mul. Pascal spent five years as Spotify’s Global Head of Hardware Partnerships. Setmixer has developed a recording system to capture and release live music performances in studio-level quality by connecting to the mixing desk of partnered venues.
Setmixer offers its hardware to venues for free and the company’s business model involves a revenue share with venues, returning 30% of all proceeds back to the venue. Setmixer is now partnered at venues across greater London including Half Moon Putney. The recording device ensures that once a mixing console is fired up, a state-of-the-art 64 channel, 44.1kHz, 48kHz or 96kHz, 16, 24 or 32-bit audio recording is being captured.
“This [funding] milestone is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our remarkable team at Setmixer, and it’s also a nod to the extraordinary community of artists who have played their hearts out for their fans in 7.4 million live music performances worldwide,” says Pascal de Mul about the funding round.
“Our mission continues—to bring Setmixer’s live music recordings to every venue in the UK and beyond, empowering artists to share their performances effortlessly.”
The potential here for bands to have a live performance recording ready to upload to DSPs the same night it was recorded is tremendous. It means streaming revenue from the live performance can be nearly instanteous—instead of having to wait for a mix to upload—AI-asissted mixing creates the mix in near real-time.
The investment round was led by Raw Ventures and joined by VGC Partners, along with a group of supportive angel investors. It marks the next significant endorsement in Setmixer’s vision of altering the live music distribution landscape.
