Actress Cailee Spaeny appeared at the Gotham Awards in New York tonight, the actress was nominated for outstanding lead performance in this year’s “Priscilla” biopic.

Spaeny, who got her start on “Pacific Rim Uprising” and has starred in the likes of “The Craft: Legacy,” “Vice,” “Bad Times at the El Royale” and “On the Basis of Sex,” gave some red-carpet interviews where she spoke about one of her high profile upcoming gigs – Fede Alvarez’s new “Alien: Romulus” film.

Not a lot is known about the movie, which is entirely separate from Noah Hawley’s “Alien” FX series which takes place decades before the original “Alien” and around about the time of the events of “Prometheus”.

What Spaeny has revealed is that ‘Romulus’ is unfolding in the near six-decade gap between “Alien” and “Aliens,” a time when Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) was adrift in cryosleep. She tells Variety:

“It’s supposed to slot in between the first movie and the second movie. They brought the same team from ‘Aliens,’ the James Cameron film. The same people who built those xenomorphs actually came on and built ours. So getting to see the original design with the original people who have been working on these films for 45-plus years and has been so much of their life has been really incredible.

My first film was big-budget sci-fi. I feel like I’m going back to that world. And I have so much fun. I like trying to do as many different things as I can. So I swapped my high heels and my beehive for spacesuits and lots of wire work. … I love watching those old ’70s, ’80s action sci-fi films. And I’m such a fan of that IP and Sigourney Weaver. It’s legendary to get to be a part of it.”

Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu co-star in the film which is seen as a standalone installment that was originally slated to go to Hulu before shifting to a theatrical release strategy.

“Alien: Romulus” is set to hit cinemas on August 16th 2024.
