Some stars are adamant about not returning to work they did decades earlier, roles that they can’t help but be identified with even as the actor has long moved on.
Others are more than happy to revisit those roles. We’ve seen it a lot on TV with sitcoms as legacy sequels from “Fuller House” to “The Conners” to “Night Court” which keep popping up and whilst the critics rarely praise, there’s usually an audience there.
One of the most signature 1990s American sitcoms, “Home Improvement,” has not been revived thus far even as its star Tim Allen is still popping up in films and series.
Speaking with The Messenger (via Deadline) recently while promoting the second season of his Disney+ series “The Santa Clauses,” Allen was asked about a potential “Home Improvement” revival. He says he’s open to it, as are his co-stars:
“I see Richard Karn a lot, and I talk to the boys…and I’m there as one of their friends. We keep talking about [a spinoff].
It’s funny, one of the conversations we’ve had recently is how weird it would be if Home Improvement would be about the kids’ kids.
Like if all of them had children, and I’m a grandparent. Home Re-Improvement or something like that. Its come up.”
The original series also starred Patricia Richardson, Earl Hindman, Taran Noah Smith, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Zachery Ty Bryan, Richard Karn and Debbe Dunning. The series ran for eight seasons, generating 204 episodes in total.
