Alouettes win Grey Cup

Alouettes win Grey Cup

For the first time since 2010, the Alouettes played in the Grey Cup final.

For the 110th edition of the CFL final, Montreal faced the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the defending finalists.

Over the past week, the issue of the French language in Hamilton has attracted the attention of many. The host team chose to wear their blue jerseys with the word “Montreal” on them, as this better represented the French-speaking culture in the metropolis.

So our favorites had their sights set on the franchise’s eighth Grey Cup.

However, the Blue Bombers opened the scoring on their very first possession. A field goal gave Winnipeg a three-goal lead before Montreal had even touched the ball.

After a sequence on offense that won’t go down in history, the Alouettes’ defense gave way for a rare time since the start of the playoffs.

Opposing ball carrier Brady Oliveira scored a five-yard touchdown.

It was 10-0 Winnipeg at that point.

But Montreal didn’t feel sorry for itself. Thanks to a spectacular catch by Austin Mack and a 32-yard run by William Stanback, the host team closed the gap to three points.

10-7.

But a reversal in favor of the Bombers hurt the Alouettes.

Punt returner James Letcher Jr. dropped the ball in his territory, and the Western champions took advantage to score another major.

Despite a sequence in which the Eastern representatives knocked on the door, the Bombers retreated to the locker room after the half ahead 17-7.

American punk band Green Day was on hand to entertain fans at half-time. A great performance!

As he did earlier in the game, Mack woke up his troupe with a spectacular catch.

And just like in the first half, that catch led to an Alouettes touchdown.

Winnipeg was in position to add points moments later, but Kabion Ento had other plans.

He made the interception in the end zone.

With just over 10 minutes left in the game, Jason Maas’ team took the lead for the first time.

Austin Mack, who had an excellent game, scored six points.

Montreal led by four (21-17) at that point.

That lead didn’t last long in the end.

Late in the game, after a sack against Cody Fajardo, Montreal seemed headed for a heartbreaking defeat.

BUT.

The club converted a third try and then scored with less than 15 seconds left in the game.
