What does it take to become a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader? Netflix’s new docuseries America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders answers that question by giving viewers — and cheer fans — a detailed glimpse into the blood, sweat and tears that are required to join the elite team. From tryouts to sacrifices, and to the consequences from their grueling training, the truth behind the DCC is revealed in the new doc.

Hollywood Life has rounded up all the information you need to know about ‘America’s Sweethearts’ below.

What Is ‘America’s Sweethearts’ About?

Per Netflix, the synopsis reads, “Since 1961, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have dazzled audiences with their dynamic dancing, becoming an iconic squad both on and off the field. On June 20, the globally recognized DCC step off the sidelines and take center stage in America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, a series that reveals what it takes — what it really takes — to step into those bright white knee-high boots.”

Apart from the strict training schedule and performances, the doc also explores the squad members’ personal lives, from sweet milestones to at-home struggles.

America’s Sweethearts was directed by Cheer filmmaker Greg Whiteley, who told Netflix, “The kind of access and creative freedom we need to make the kind of work we want to make is not easy to come by — especially when dealing with a brand as large as the Dallas Cowboys. To their infinite credit, the Cowboys offered unfettered access for the year we filmed the DCC and left us alone. The result is an authentic portrait of one of the most storied and beloved institutions we have in American pop culture.”

When Does the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders Doc Premiere?

The seven-episode docuseries premiered on June 20 on Netflix.

Will the Docuseries Get a Season 2?

While there has been no confirmation of a second season, Greg told Variety that he’d “love” to explore more about the team if given the chance.

“I felt like we were just starting to get there as we were wrapping up,” the director said. “And I’d love to have more time to see if we can get deeper and deeper with more and more of the team.”
