Despite sinking fast domestically, James Wan’s “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” has managed to hang on in there at the global box-office.
As of this weekend, the film has hit $412.7 million worldwide – passing the $400 million benchmark that no DCEU film has achieved since the first “Aquaman” back in 2018.
The sequel is obviously not going to get even close to the $1.1 billion its predecessor had, but it has easily surpassed its next nearest rivals of the past five years – “Shazam” $363.5 million and “Black Adam” with $390.4 million.
Other DC titles in that time include “Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey” with $201 million, “Wonder Woman 1984” with $166.3 million, and “The Suicide Squad” with $167 million.
The news comes as the movie hit digital download this past week in the U.S. ahead of a planned disc release on March 12th. Critics reviews have been quite negative.
2024 will see a year without DC ahead of an entire reset of the DC film slate starting with James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” ushering in the new era in July 2025.
