Ubisoft has reportedly started development on a remake of the popular 2013 “Assassin’s Creed” entry “Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag” is in the works, according to Kotaku.
Ubisoft Singapore, one of the studios that worked on the famed boating sections of the gameplay of the original ‘Black Flag,’ will reportedly be a major part of helping to bring the game up to spec on modern systems.
The title was a cross-gen release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 a decade ago and is set primarily on and around the islands in the Caribbean Sea during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th century.
The three major cities players are involved in are Havana, Nassau, and Kingston. To this day, the title often sits high on ‘best game in the series’ lists alongside the Venice-set second one and the more recent trio of ancient world-set entries.
The outlet indicates the remake is currently in its earliest stages and will not be complete for “at least a few years”. It comes as publisher Ubisoft is pushing this biggest of its franchises.
The 9th century Baghdad-set “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” launching this Fall marks a return to a smaller scale entry akin to the franchise’s earliest titles. Multiple other titles on the way include the feudal Japan-set ‘Red’ and the late Holy Roman Empire-set ‘Hexe’ which are part of the new “Assassin’s Creed Infinity” franchise hub.
There’s also the China-set mobile game “Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade” on the way along with a standalone multiplayer title.
