Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie just keeps rolling in the cash as mid-week sales for the film show no signs of ebbing which has led to the movie hitting $528.6 million worldwide at the end of Wednesday, just under a week after it began its global rollout.
Domestically the film has been performing incredibly well during the week – pulling in $26 million on Monday, $26 million again on Tuesday and now $23 million on Wednesday. As of end of Wednesday, it is already at $237 million in North America alone.
In the UK, “Barbie” has made just over $40 million in its first week and is currently the second biggest for a WB film ever, just behind “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2”.
“Oppenheimer” is also showing similar strong holds. Its domestic opening weekend was around half that of “Barbie” and its mid-week hauls are same, the title consistently pulling in $12 million on Monday and Tuesday and just under $11 million on Wednesday for a total so far of $117 million in North America.
Internationally “Oppenheimer” is also seeing strong holds and has made $147.2 million overseas through Wednesday – bringing its global total to $265 million. It’s expected to pass the $300 million mark by Friday.
As of now, Barbie is tracking for a $70+ million second weekend domestically – a number higher than most of the Summer blockbuster’s opening weekends this year.
