I see you, camera from “Say Cheese and Die.”
As a ’90s kid who grew up in suburbia with a slightly macabre mind, I was obviously obsessed with Goosebumps. R.L. Stine’s horror series for courageous children kept me up at night, from the horrors of Camp Jellyjam to all that Monster Blood. I used to dare myself to watch Deborah Forte’s 1995 TV series, mainly relying on my much braver sister to regale me with the nightmares of each episode.
I also loved the 2015 Jack Black movie and that perfect Stephen King joke. What? It was spot on.
So, the news that Hulu’s own version of Goosebumps was on the way brought me a welcome sense of dread. Developed by The Muppets’ Nicholas Stoller and Detective Pikachu’s Rob Letterman, Goosebumps stars Justin Long, Rachael Harris, Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Ana Yi Puig, and Will Price.
Now, we have a trailer, and beware, we’re in for a scare. The streaming service’s series follows a group of five teens (as always) as they dig into the death of a student Harold Biddle 30 years earlier — something their parents may have had a major hand in. So, they’ve gotta head into the ol’ Biddle House — and we know how scary neighbourhood houses go.
Goosebumps is streaming on Hulu on Oct. 13, of course.
