On Saturday, September 23, Beyoncé returned to her hometown of Houston with a striking performance. The legendary singer treated her fans to a night filled with her famous hits, including “Crazy In Love,” “Love On Top,” “1+1,” and “Run The World (Girls),” among many others.

The Houston leg of her Renaissance Tour marked the homecoming of Beyoncé, and Houston eagerly celebrated her return. The “Space City” celebrated the Queen with an event called “Hou Run The World,” which took place in Downtown Houston, featuring a stunning display of over 400 drones and fireworks, and an appearance by Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner.

To further honor the I Am Sasha Fierce artist, the city temporarily It changed its county name from Harris County to “BeyCounty” and renamed the Metro bus line to “Beyhive Bus” for the concert weekend.

Beyhive fans were dressed in silver and chrome, as requested by the Queen herself, to honor Virgo season. As concertgoers entered the stadium, they received bracelets that synchronized with the lighting on Beyoncé’s stage, creating a mesmerizing visual experience.

At exactly 9:30 PM, Beyoncé took the stage, opening her show with “Dangerously In Love.” Dressed in a stunning polka dot Balmain dress adorned with pearls, she captivated the crowd from the very beginning.  She expressed her gratitude to her hometown, saying:

“H-Town is goin’ down. I am so grateful to be on this stage back home in Houston, Texas. I can travel to any country in the world, but you ain’t ever going to take the country out of this girl, I represent ya’ll everywhere I go, I wanna make you proud.”

Throughout the night, the icon showcased her incredible vocal range, delivering powerful renditions of Tina Turner’s “River Deep-Mountain High” and Mary J. Blige’s “I’m Going Down.” The highlight of the evening came when Queen Bey’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, joined her on stage to perform “My Power” and “Black Parade.” The crowd erupted in cheers, showering Blue with their love and admiration.

Another memorable moment occurred when Beyoncé brought out fellow Houston native Megan Thee Stallion during the performance of “Savage Remix.” It’s worth noting that this performance marks a significant reunion, as it has been nearly three years since the release of their chart-topping hit.

This also signifies the first time in three years that the Houston stars have graced the stage together to perform their iconic song.

Megan, joining Bey on stage, delivered her verse with remarkable energy and finesse. Amid the electrifying performance, Queen Bey took a moment to share some heartfelt words with the “Her” artist, saying:

“Doesn’t she make you proud? She makes me proud. I love you, girl.”

As the crowd roared with excitement, the Houston Hottie continued to command the stage with her undeniable talent. Once Megan wrapped up her performance, Beyoncé affectionately expressed, “I love you, Queen,” to which Megan, in an excited manner, responded:

 “I love you, Beyoncé!”

The show was also attended by Houston legends such as Slim Thug, Bun B, and Trae The Truth, and former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Letoya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson. Celebrities like Jay-Z, Tamar Braxton, Lizzo, and Normani were also present.

Houston had been eagerly anticipating the renowned “Mute” challenge, inspired by Beyoncé’s latest song “ENERGY,” featuring the lyrics:

“Big wave in the room, the crowd gon’ move, Look around everybody on mute.”

In this unique challenge, initiated by the Queen herself, Beyoncé calls for the audience to go silent when she utters the word “mute.” This challenge has seen multiple cities competing for the title of successfully completing it.

From the perspective of Night 1 in Houston, it appeared that the crowd had indeed risen to the challenge and went mute as instructed by the “America Has A Problem” singer.

Additionally, Houston was granted exclusivity by being treated to three special songs, known as “The Big 3,” including “THIQUE,” “ALL UP IN YOUR MIND,” and “Drunk In Love.” These songs are only granted to select cities, and Houston joined the ranks of Atlanta, NYC, and Los Angeles.

As the concert concluded with “Summer Renaissance,” the “Break My Soul” singer soared above Club Renaissance on a disco-ball horse, creating an ethereal atmosphere. The impact of Beyoncé’s homecoming show was undeniable, as she left a lasting mark on her hometown once again.

In a nod to Ballroom culture, Beyoncé incorporated a dance routine inspired by the subculture of Harlem ballroom culture into her show featuring original ballroom dancers such as Carlos Basquiat and Honey Balenciaga.

In addition, she paid homage to her late gay uncle, Uncle Johnny, who profoundly influenced her as a child. He also inspired the album, making the performance even more meaningful.

In a similar scene of sold-out shows, rising star Victoria Monét took over the city of Charlotte during her solo tour to promote her latest album, Jaguar II. The packed house in Charlotte proves that R&B resurgence is alive and well.
