BLACKPINK’s Jennie recently shared a vlog on YouTube titled A Moment in Capri with Jennie. She was seen getting ready to walk in Jacquemus’ fashion show and a staff member was helping with her makeup and hair. Although the video was in black and white, netizens discovered that she seemed to be holding a vape. Afterwards, Jennie was clearly seen inhaling and expelling smoke from her mouth into the face of the staff member.
Some fans felt very shocked and disappointed as they were unable to accept that their idol was vaping. Others added that while vaping is very common, it was very selfish to vape indoors. Blowing smoke into the face of her staff was also very impolite. There were other fans who felt vaping was healthier than smoking and pointed it as a way to de-stress from work.
Netizens wondered how the editing staff did not catch this and felt that their attention to detail was sorely lacking. Although Jennie quickly deleted the clip, many overseas media have already reported on the story and netizens discussed the incident.
Italy, South Korea, and many other countries have banned smoking in an enclosed environment and in non-designated smoking areas. A netizen shared they already requested the Korean consulate in Italy investigate. They showed off the letter that they had sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, disclosing they had reported it to them as well.
Jennie’s self-founded company ODD Atelier stated, “We sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable with Jennie’s actions in the content released on July 2. Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff. Jennie has personally apologized to all the staff on-site who may have been affected. We apologize to her fans who have been disappointed through this incident. We hope to prevent this from reoccurring in the future. Thank you.”
