Blumhouse, Lionsgate Set New “Blair Witch”

Artisan Entertainment

Lionsgate and Blumhouse Productions have signed up for a multi-film deal that will see the latter horror and thriller genre label reimagining Lionsgate IP.

The studios, which recently teamed on “Imaginary” which opened last month,” have already set their next project – a new “Blair Witch Project” film.

The first film in 1999 was made for just $35,000 and would go on to gross $249 million globally. That success spawned a sequel in 2001 and a bigger budget reboot in 2016. Roy Lee, who produced the 2016 version, is back for this.

The success also kickstarted the found-footage movie boom which yielded the “Paranormal Activity” franchise which is what led to the establishment of Blumhouse.

Lionsgate film chair Adam Fogelson and Blumhouse chief Jason Blum co-announced the news with Fogelson saying in a statement:

“There is no one better at this genre than the team at Blumhouse. We are thrilled to kick this partnership off with a new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.”

No word as yet regarding when this new version will go into production.
