A popular kayaker, Bren Orton, who was respected for his talents and ability to beautifully package and export the beauty of the sport has gone missing while doing what he loves most after a terrifying accident while kayaking in Switzerland.
Orton was kayaking with friends on the Melezza River in the Ticino Region of Switzerland when a well-known feature of rivers that makes things incredibly dangerous for kayakers managed to snag him and now, he’s gone missing.
His death is being presumed by many but while things look bleak now, Bren Orton has not been officially declared dead or alive but is simply unaccounted for.
Bren Orton goes missing after accident, presumed dead
Orton was with a group of people kayaking the Melezza River in Switzerland on Thursday, May 16th when tragedy struck.
He’s reported to have gotten trapped in a recirculating feature and did not resurface.
According to those in the know, a recirculating wave is when water continually flows back over itself.
It is said that objects including people can become easily held or trapped in recirculating waves, making it a danger kayakans have to navigate.
Orton has no doubt come upon such dangers many times before but for whatever reason things did not work out for him this time.
He got sucked into the water and all efforts to find him proved futile.
His kayaking team, Pyranha Kayaks announced the shocking news.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce an accident involving Bren Orton. While kayaking with a group on the Melezza River in Switzerland, Bren became trapped in a recirculating feature and did not resurface,” they wrote.
Pyranha said both friends of Orton and the Swizz authorities are hard at work to find him.
They called on the public to respect the privacy of Bren’s family at this time as they await more information about the incident.
Career
According to reports and testimonies of those who followed him, Bren was one of the best kayakers around, not simply due to his talent but his ability to project it through his videos.
He ran the Senders YouTube channel where he posted incredible videos about his incredible passion for kayaking.
Orton has visited almost every continent to face down its water bodies and his incredible passion always shines through all he does and thus endears him to his followers who can truly tell he’s doing what he loves.
Following his passing, numerous people shared tributes about how he has influenced them when it comes to the world of kayaking.
“Really hoping that he’s found. Bren’s videos have been inspiring me since day one. Maybe this one isn’t the most appropriate right now, but if you haven’t watched it’s really beautiful,” one netizen on Facebook.
Another simply said: “Big loss to the community. Rest easy, legend,”
Currently, one can only hope for the best as the search for Orton continues.
No matter how bleak things look, hope cannot be lost until official confirmation arrives, one way or another.
