Chinese idol Cai Xukun (蔡徐坤), 24, has been grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons. In addition to his contract dispute and copyright controversy issues since 2021, his image was further damaged due to an abortion scandal.
In June, a blogger known as Miss C revealed she had gotten pregnant after sleeping with Xukun. His mother got involved and offered Miss C 500,000 Chinese yuan to get an abortion. However, the amount was later reduced by more than half. Additionally, wary of Miss C’s intentions and willingness to go through with the abortion, Xukun’s mother installed hidden cameras in Miss C’s home to monitor her.
Later, influencer Miss W also claimed she slept with Xukun after he drugged her drink when she was only 17. After Xukun responded the rumors to be false, Miss W retracted her statements and said she regretted falsifing the information.
Due to repeated negative exposure, Xukun was flagged as a “risky artiste” to work with. His scenes in the Thailand special of Keep Running were deleted. The editing team took pains to make it appear as if Xukun did not partake in the filming at all.
With the strong cancel culture in China, it remains to be seen whether Xukun’s career can withstand the trials of his scandals.
