After becoming a Phillies anthem a few years ago, Calum Scott’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ just crossed 1 billion streams on Spotify.
English singer-songwriter Calum Scott just celebrated one billion streams of his remix of “Dancing On My Own” on Spotify — and he thanked an American baseball team and its fans for helping him get there.
For the past few seasons, the Philadelphia Phillies have used Scott’s remix of Swedish pop singer Robyn’s 2010 jam as their playoff anthem. With Phillies fans cranking it up to eleven and the team going to the World Series last season, Scott’s track enjoyed a significant boost in popularity.
To celebrate the milestone, Scott posted a video on social media on Wednesday, thanking his collaborators and listeners for helping him cross the billion-stream threshold.
“Thank you so much to everybody who has contributed to me being able to sit here very proudly with one of these plaques commemorating a billion streams of my version of ‘Dancing On My Own,’” said Scott. “Massive thank you to Robyn, as always. To Tiesto, to everybody who made this song what it is — I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you guys.”
Scott also shouted out the Phillies, expressing how grateful he is to the players and the fans for helping “Dancing On My Own” rack up the streams: “Also just want to say a huge thank you to the Phillies, all of their fans, and everyone in the city who has embraced this song for a second time. I’m grateful for every single play.”
Calum Scott isn’t the only artist enjoying some additional play as the result of a baseball team. After the Texas Rangers revealed they often listen to Creed’s “Higher” on the team bus, the fans picked up the tradition by singing the song at games. The band even tweeted its support for the Rangers earlier this month.
