Filmmaker Christopher Nolan has surprisingly revealed he’s a big fan of Will Ferrell’s 2006 sports comedy “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby”.
The well-reviewed comedy starred Ferrell as the titular Ricky Bobby, an immature yet successful NASCAR driver and is packed with strong supporting cast including John C. Reilly, Sacha Baron Cohen, Gary Cole, Michael Clarke Duncan, Leslie Bibb, Jane Lynch, and Amy Adams.
In an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show a few weeks back in a clip that’s slowly been going viral, the host asked the “Oppenheimer” director what his ‘remote drop movie’ – that is a movie that when you’re channel surfing and come upon it, it makes you drop the remote and keep watching.
Nolan said: “If there’s an old movie playing, I mean, anything by Kubrick, it’s a remote drop. And one of the great comedies too, I mean Talladega Nights, I’m never gonna be able to switch that up.”
Eisen responded: “Really? The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is a Christopher Nolan remote drop, is that what you’re saying?”. Nolan then quoted one of its famous lines: “If you ain’t first, you’re last.”
Nolan has in the past talked about having a “very soft spot” for “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift”. The comment follows a recent trend of filmmakers praising work you might not expect, such as Quentin Tarantino recently singing the praises of the House of Blues-set finale of the “Freaky Friday” remake.
