For church music directors, worship leaders, choir members, singers, and musicians who aspire to level up their craft for mission and ministry, the guidebook “Vocal Training for Praise Singers” by acclaimed vocal coach and Christian artist Julie Alice Kinscheck is a valuable resource to take their talents to heavenly heights. The book was last displayed by the self-publishing and book marketing company Readers Magnet at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023, on October 18-22, 2023, at the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
“Vocal Training for Praise Singers” is an all-in-one training manual for every singer desiring to use their vocal gifts to lead others to God. With 85 vocal exercises, it is an invaluable tool for worship leaders, choir directors, and individual singers to lead/practice warm-ups, lead songs, follow music, learn good vocal technique, and maintain vocal health. The vocal training manual is supported by Scripture, scientific research, and years of teaching experience.
This vocal training manual, according to Kinscheck in the preface, “was and is a labor of love.” The idea for “Vocal Training for Praise Singers” started many years ago when she first started teaching private students alongside her day jobs and side gigs. She had led bands over the years, but leading choirs in both schools and churches broadened her perspective. She said, “I began to desire to help these singers learn to blend, protect their instruments, and bring joy and inspiration to themselves and others in their performances.”
Kinscheck gained further experience as a music director worship leading in her church for over two decades and directing and arranging for the award-winning a cappella gospel jazz group, Faith in Action. However, it was her work as a voice teacher for the South Central Mass Gospel Choir that inspired her to create her first vocal health curriculum that led teach her first vocal workshop at a worship conference. From there, she was invited to teach classes and workshops in the country and abroad. Along the way, she further developed her curriculum while continuing to perform professionally and to teach privately, but was always too busy to create a written partner curriculum for her workshops.
Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit, affecting – as well as transforming – the world of worship and the entire music industry. It forced musicians, singers, and vocal teachers to adapt or perish and believers to often (physically) disconnect from community; many became fearful and despondent.
Despite the fear of disease, horrible racial strife and political unrest facing the country, Kinscheck was able to lean on the anchor of her faith in God through the challenges. She then took this precious gift of time to fulfill the vision to write a book to share her knowledge and experience singing for the Lord and teaching voice with those who desire to lead others to God with their voice.
“Vocal Training for Praise Singers” proves to be a work of faith, grace, and love – love for God and for the singers in His service. In her published work, Julie affirms through scripture why singing for God matters and through teaching how to do it skillfully. Kinscheck shows readers how to practically grow both vocally and spiritually. Her vulnerable life-stories and sharing evidence how she is living out His Word, which dwells in her richly.
