A Big Decision for Counter-Strike 2
Valve has recently announced the discontinuation of support for Counter-Strike 2 on DirectX9 and 32-bit operating systems, alongside macOS. The decision is influenced by the fact that these combined users comprise less than one percent of the total active CS:GO players.
“Moving forward, Counter-Strike 2 will exclusively support 64-bit Windows and Linux,” Valve explained in a statement. “If you are unable to launch Counter-Strike 2 with your current hardware, you can access a legacy version of CS:GO. Support for this version of CS:GO will end on January 1, 2024.”
The legacy version is a frozen build of the game and it will have all the features except for official matchmaking. It will be available only after January 1. However, there might be problems regarding features that rely on compatibility with the game coordinator like accessing the inventory.
Thankfully, Prime Status Upgrade refunds will remain accessible until December 1. Users with DirectX 9 and 32-bit Windows can seek refunds for their Steam purchases if they were made between the announcement of the Limited Test on March 22 and the game’s official release on September 27.
Likewise, macOS users may request a refund if they primarily played on macOS. Or used a Mac to play CS:GO during the same time period.
