The trend of streamers pulling content has seen several jaw-dropping decisions made in regard to some high-profile titles being abruptly removed from streamers.
But it appears to have hit a rather unexpected new low with the reveal that the Disney+ original feature “Crater,” which the service actively promoted before its release on May 12th, was removed on June 30th – just seven weeks after its debut.
The sci-fi family adventure film starred actors McKenna Grace, Isaiah Russell-Bailey and Scott ‘Kid Cudi’ Mescudi and follows friends from a mining colony on the moon in the year 2257. Reviews for the movie were mostly positive.
Boasting a $53 million budget and a script by “From” series creator John Griffin, was directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez who helmed the critically acclaimed “The Stanford Prison Experiment” film. It was produced by “Stranger Things” alums Dan Cohen and Shawn Levy.
The film was pulled the same time that several ABC series like”Alaska Daily” and “The Company You Keep” were removed from the streamer.
No official reason has been provided on why “Crater” was removed from the service, though it’s widely being seen as a cost-cutting measure.
