For a while now there’s been talk about “Mission: Impossible” director Christopher McQuarrie and actor Tom Cruise’s next work together – a project said to be a ‘gnarly’ R-rated film.
For the past few months the chatter has been that said project was to be a re-imagining of the 1977 Clint Eastwood thriller “The Gauntlet” and that Scarlett Johansson was being sought to star.
Cut to today and a new listing at Production Weekly (via TC News) indicates that the film won’t be “The Gauntlet,” but rather a WW2 project titled “Broadsword” for Warner Bros. Pictures.
A synopsis reads: “The story of an S.O.E. operation in WWIl follows a marine captain who crashes in France and becomes the sole survivor. Against all odds, he must complete his mission amidst the chaos of war.”
McQuarrie and Erik Jendresen will reportedly pen the script for the project which aims to shoot next year – though it’s not clear if Cruise will do this before or after his commitment to Iñárritu’s next film.
