Benedict Cumberbatch appears to have teased that he’ll be slipping back into Doctor Strange’s sentient cloak for another appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Appearing as a guest in the JW3 Speaker Series, Cumberbatch was asked about his upcoming projects and would only give away that “there are some Marvel capers in the making next year” but wouldn’t say what.
It’s not clear if Cumberbatch is referring to a standalone third “Doctor Strange” film, which is not on the official Marvel release slate at this time and unlikely so soon anyhow, or the more likely scenario is that he’s making an appearance in another MCU film.
The actor has played the role across two of his own films, two “Avengers” films, and both “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. He was last seen disappearing off with Cle (Charlize Theron), trying to fix an ‘incursion’ he caused.
In terms of Marvel films, “Captain America: Brave New World” has already been shot, “Deadpool 3” is still filming, and shooting on both “Thunderbolts” and “Blade” is on hold until the writer’s strike is over. Additionally, “Fantastic Four” is likely to shoot next year.
Of those candidates, “Blade” or F4 would seem the most likely candidates to include a Strange appearance.
