Daedalic Entertainment is a German video game company with an extensive history. The company was founded sixteen years ago, in 2007 and has a lengthy list of titles under its belt. Some of these include Anna’s Quest, Deponia, Blackguards and State of Mind. Unfortunately, its most recent release, Lord of the Rings: Gollum, was poorly received and has resulted in the company making serious changes to its focus. As a result, the company will end in-studio game development and focus on publishing.
A company representative told Gamewirtschaft, “We value each and every member of our team and it is important to us that the transition goes as smoothly as possible. Therefore, we will support our former employees in finding new opportunities within our network.” The statement comes as a result of the move and the need to layoff 25 more persons, beyond the ninety that were already displaced. Thus, the company has ceased work on another Lord of the Rings game that was in development and Surviving Deponia will remain wholly in the hands of AtomicTorch Studio.
The company has described the move as a new beginning in the long history of Daedalic Entertainment and of course, a major turning point. Moreover, fans can look forward to an established team assisting its parent company, Nacon, on future games. Also, despite a bad launch, the company can rebound!
