“Deadpool 3” Release Date In Jeopardy?

Disney

Filmmaker Shawn Levy says he’s uncertain if the upcoming third “Deadpool” feature will still make its planned release date of May 3rd 2024 due to the ongoing nature of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

A third “Deadpool” spent years stuck in development, but finally got the go-ahead this year and began shooting in May – just as the writer’s strike began so changes couldn’t be made to the script on set.

When the actor’s strike went into effect on July 14th however, production had to hit pause and has been on ice ever since. Last month, Levy confirmed they had gotten halfway through filming before production was halted.

In an interview with The Wrap today for his upcoming limited Netflix series “All the Light We Cannot See,” Levy expressed his concern about the “Deadpool 3” delay:

“I don’t even know if we officially have [a release date]. I know we were gonna be May 3rd. Certainly, the actor’s strike and the long pause in production have put that release date in true risk. We’ve shot half the movie. I’ve edited half the movie. We’re dying to get back to work and get this movie out next year.”

Levy was also asked about his attendance alongside his film’s stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds at a recent Kansas City Chiefs versus New York Jets game.

The trio were seen watching the game alongside Taylor Swift, who is good friends with Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively. This sparked rumors of Swift doing a cameo as Dazzler in the film. Of that, Levy has no comment:

“I’m going across the board. ‘No comment’ because that’s a double whammy. That’s Taylor-related. And it’s MCU-related. I’m no dummy. You’re going to have to wait and see.”

Levy is also a producer on Netflix’s “Stranger Things” which is expected to begin filming its fifth season after the strike ends. Of that he says:

“I can say that we are hoping to start filming as soon as possible. We really need the actor’s strike resolved first. The Duffers have been hard at work since the writer strike ended.”

Levy’s “All The Light We Cannot See” will premiere on Netflix on November 2nd.
