Disney Dreamlight Valley Announcements Include Multiplayer, New Characters, and Expansions
Approximately a year since its early access debut on various platforms, Disney Dreamlight Valley (DDV) has held its first showcase event, unveiling a plethora of significant changes scheduled to arrive in the game over the upcoming weeks and months.
The showcase event offered a sneak peek into the future of DDV, introducing various new features and content expansions. Players can look forward to an Apple Arcade version, the arrival of beloved Disney and Pixar characters, and most notably, the addition of multiplayer via ValleyVerse.
Jack Skellington from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” is set to become the newest free character update, moving into the valley before the year’s end. The game will also introduce a winter Star Path, DDV’s version of a battle pass, offering snowy outfits inspired by various Disney characters.
The standout announcement is ValleyVerse, DDV’s venture into multiplayer gaming. With ValleyVerse, players will be able to join or invite others to partake in multiplayer sessions. However, it’s important to note that this feature won’t extend to Realms or different playable areas outside of a player’s valley. Multiplayer capabilities include item exchanges and the opportunity to visit Scrooge McDuck stores in various valleys to explore new inventory that changes daily.
While the precise number of players allowed in a single valley together was not explicitly mentioned, the video seemed to hint at groups of up to four players joining forces. Gameloft, the game’s developer, assured players that this is just the beginning for DDV’s multiplayer features, promising further enhancements in the future.
Additionally, DDV will exit its Early Access phase and be officially launched as Disney Dreamlight Valley 1.0 in December. This transition marks the end of the main questline’s first act, with more story content in the pipeline. Founders who purchased a Founder’s Pack, granted to those playing before the 1.0 launch, will receive a bundle of 2,500 Moonstones and in-game cosmetics.
In the future, DDV will introduce new Realms with themed missions, starting with “Monsters Inc.” in 2024, where players will assist characters like Mike and Sulley. Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog” is also slated to join the valley later in the year.
The game’s first paid expansion, “A Rift in Time,” was briefly mentioned, featuring new biomes, characters, and storyline. This expansion, priced at $30, will launch on December 5 and comes as part of the game’s Gold Edition. It will be split into three chapters, introducing new heroes and villains, along with a valuable exploration tool: the hourglass.
Players can anticipate a wide array of new recipes, furnishings, clothing options, and other cosmetics. A new landmass, nearly as large as the original valley, will be added, with the advantage of not affecting the object count from the main valley. Ancient Machines will also be introduced to automate certain processes and will be available in the main valley as well.
For those on the go, DDV’s Arcade Edition will be available on Apple Arcade starting December 5. While it largely mirrors the core experience, it lacks in-game purchases and cross-save functionality with platforms outside the Apple ecosystem. The Arcade Edition includes the “A Rift in Time” expansion from day one.
Last but not least, the game’s enchanting soundtrack, a hallmark of the Disney magic within DDV, is now available on major streaming platforms, allowing players to enjoy the same tunes that have accompanied their virtual decorating adventures in the game.
