Disney
Walt Disney Pictures went ahead with the red carpet world premiere today for its upcoming live-action “Haunted Mansion” movie opening on July 28th.
However with no actors showing up due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Disney couldn’t get any of the film’s stars like Owen Wilson, Lakeith Stanfield, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Hadish, Danny DeVito, Jared Leto or Jamie Lee Curtis to attend.
Rather than cancelling the event, Disney turned it into a fan event and according to Inside the Magic sent along Disneyland staff dressed as iconic characters to attend the photo call including people dressed as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Snow White, Maleficent and Cruella. The idea has already generated some rather colorful reactions on social media.
They joined D23 members at the event based on the iconic attraction at the park. This marks the first major premiere to take place since SAG-AFTRA voted to issue a strike Thursday.
In the mysterious adventure, a doctor (Rosario Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Chase Dillon), looking to start a new life, move into a strangely affordable mansion in New Orleans, only to discover that the place is much more than they bargained for.
Desperate for help, they contact a priest (Owen Wilson), who, in turn, enlists the aid of a widowed scientist-turned-failed-paranormal expert (LaKeith Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Tiffany Haddish) and a crotchety historian (Danny DeVito).
“Dear White People” filmmaker Justin Simien helms the new take from a script by Katie Dippold. “Haunted Mansion” releases in theaters on July 28th.
