Mumbai rap frontrunner DIVINE’s latest song “4.10” allows him to pause just for a moment on where he’s reached for a reflective and emotional release that comes with a monochrome video.

The song, DIVINE’s last release of 2023, was hinted at earlier in the year when he announced his collaboration with Punjabi-Canadian star Karan Aujla. “23 is odd and it’s not over,” DIVINE said in October on Instagram, signaling that he may just have another song out before the end of the year. That’s turned out to be “4.10,” released via Saregama, perhaps because they own the rights to the sample that features in the song.

The hook features a sample of legendary Punjabi singer Laal Chand Yamla Jatt, which adds to the introspective, journeying nature of “4.10.” In a description released with the song, “4.10” is intended to depict “DIVINE’s innermost thoughts and emotions.” The statement adds, “Produced by the duo Zzorawar and Arsh Heer, the beats resonate with the hauntingly beautiful verses of Yamla Jatt’s classic, ‘Tere Ni Karara Mainu Puteya, Das Main Ki Pyar Wichon Kuhteya’ which translates to ‘Your promises cost me dearly, tell me what did I gain from love.’ This sample threads through the rhythm, infusing the track with an emotional depth that perfectly aligns with DIVINE’s lyrical narrative.”

The song follows DIVINE’s previous 2023 collaborative singles including “Chorni,” with the late Sidhu Moose Wala, plus “Bhide” with star singer Arijit Singh and lyricist Amitabh Bhattacharya and “Chingari” with singer-composer Raghav.

Lyrically, “4.10” delves into just a moment that DIVINE’s taken to pause and think, writing aspirational metaphors about working hard towards one’s dreams and how the competition can’t touch him. In the process of doubling down on his life’s values, the rapper talks about how he doesn’t switch his sound or get up to antics for attention. While he’s seen driving a Mustang GT in the video directed by his Gully Gang main man and filmmaker Joel D’Souza (JD), DIVINE impresses upon listeners the undeniable power of money and the importance of bringing it in.

While the song brings DIVINE’s release year to a close, he’s got a couple of gigs this week. He said on Instagram, “Playing Delhi on the 24th and Goa on the 30th…can’t wait to rock with you guys!” DIVINE is set for headline performances on December 24th at Gurugram’s Great Indian Sneaker Festival, followed by December 30th at Echo Music Festival in Vagator, Goa.
