Singer, songwriter, producer, actor and national treasure Dolly Parton says not only is she not ready to retire, she says she has no plans to ever do so.
Speaking with Ken Bruce on Greatest Hits Radio recently, the 77-year-old “9 to 5” star who first broke through in the late 1960s says:
“I would never retire. I’ll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song onstage someday, hopefully one I’ve written. But anyway, that’s how I hope to go because we don’t have much of a choice in that.”
She added that as long as she’s able to work and both her health and her husband are good, she will keep going – “In the meantime, I’m going to make hay while the sun shines.” She also says she thinks she’s “left a great body of work behind”.
The comments come as Parton has been popping up on screens more and more of late, from guest stints on “Call Me Kat,” “The Orville,” and “Grace and Frankie,” to multiple Christmas telemovies in which she appears and lends her name to the title.
Parton is currently working on her first rock album due in November and was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
