Donald Glover has long been accused of misogynoir, with allegations that the Atlanta star holds disdain for Black women being thrown his way for over a decade. He’s finally addressed those accusations in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he discussed asking himself if he’s “afraid” of Black women during a 2022 self-interview with Interview.
According to the star, he asked himself the question because no one else has, even while it’s been a long-held belief by his detractors.
“I felt like it was something that people always say, but no one ever asked because I felt like people really don’t want to know. It is a better narrative,” he told THR. “But anybody who actually knows me knows how much that hurts me.”
He then explained what took him so long to address the perceived issue, arguing that the truth doesn’t always land.
“But I also realize it doesn’t matter. People are not going to read this and be like, ‘Wow, I was wrong,’” he said, adding that celebrity has allowed him to disregard false narratives and focus on the people who actually know his true character.

“[I} go play with my kids and be happy and be present. Because my kids know that and they’re the only ones who matter. Or my mom knows that, and she’s the only one who matters,” he said. “Or Quinta [Brunson] knows that, and she’s the only one who matters. People who actually know me. And also, it’s not true. When I walk down the street in Atlanta, that’s not what happens.”
As recently as last year, a number of think-pieces took aim at the creative over his Amazon Prime series, SWARM. Many took issue with his admission that he didn’t prepare leading lady Dominique Fishback for the role, refusing to give her a fleshed-out backstory and telling her to behave like an animal. This compiled with previous accusations led some to think Glover didn’t believe the portrayal of this complicated Black woman character was deserving of rich storytelling.
watching the trailer already gave me a weird feeling that made me hesitant and then when i realised DG was one of the creators it made sense….and then reading this….pheeeew that man is absolute dogshit and the more he gets praised the more unapologetic he will be….qashin https://t.co/iKvkegrwux
