ELC Soars to New Heights with HOPE Latina

WEBWIRE – Friday, July 19, 2024

For 16 years, The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has been a proud partner of Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) and co-title sponsor of its annual event, the Latina History Day conference in Los Angeles, California. The cornerstone event recognizes and celebrates the historic and current achievements of Latinas across the country.

ELC has also supported HOPE’s efforts to expand nationally, serving as a co-title sponsor for its New York City-based Latina History Day luncheons in the spring, and most recently, convening members of the HOPE leadership team, ELC employees and partners, and public sector representatives for a networking reception event at its global headquarters.

Latina History Day in Los Angeles

For over 30 years, HOPE—a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Los Angeles committed to ensuring political and economic parity for Latinas through leadership, advocacy, and education to benefit the status of women—has hosted its annual Latina History Day conference in Los Angeles. The event embraces the rich diversity of the Latina experience and provides a forum to learn about and discuss topics such as health, education, and finance. Held in March, this year’s conference brought together more than 1,300 Latinas from California and leaders from across ELC and our brands.

On the eve of the conference, HOPE and ELC co-hosted a VIP salon event for Latina leaders, key government and business stakeholders, and sponsor partners. A tradition since the start of the partnership, this event was created as a way for select guests to come together and discuss the latest issues and trends for women leaders. Anna Klein, Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs, represented ELC on the evening’s panel titled “Leadership Lessons from Trailblazing Women,” alongside other panelists, including The Honorable Delia Garcia, Former Kansas Secretary of Labor and author of Latina Leadership Lessons; Celeste Rodriguez, Mayor, City of San Fernando, CA; and Assemblymember Luz Rivas, CA 43rd District. Anna shared her own leadership journey, including moments where she felt she came into her “own,” tough decisions she’s had to make throughout her career, and advice she’d give to those who are working to drive change in the workforce and help women advance further in their careers.

The next day, Jocelyn Biga, Director, Global Pro Artistry, Estée Lauder, presented this year’s Future History Maker awards. Each year, ELC is honored to present the Latina Future History Maker awards to 5 Latina college students who are working to make an impact in their communities through involvement in activities or projects, advancing their knowledge in an academic field, or pioneering groundbreaking research or inventions. To help commemorate their incredible achievements, ELC provided M·A·C makeup artists and Aveda hairstylists for a glam experience. The honorees were also presented with gift baskets containing a selection of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Too Faced, Smashbox, and GLAMGLOW products.

Later in the day, Jocelyn also represented ELC by participating in the panel, “Empowering Entrepreneurial Spirit: Transforming Ideas into Reality.” During this panel, she shared tips for how aspiring entrepreneurs can build strong relationships with industry professionals, as well as some of the challenges she’s faced in her career journey and how she has worked to overcome them.

During the conference’s VIP salon and luncheon, attendees were treated to gift bags featuring an assortment of ELC products, which included Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Concentrate, Origins Mega-Mushroom Relief and Resilience Soothing Treatment Lotion, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics Luxe Matte Lip and Luxe Lipstick, and Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

Supporting HOPE’s Growth Nationally

ELC was honored to be a co-title sponsor for HOPE’s 3rd annual Latina History Day in New York in June. HOPE began the celebration with a leadership training for rising Latina leaders across New York for a day of workshops and networking. The leadership training included guest speakers on a range of topics, from professional development to financial management. Jaime Ferreira, Vice President, Fragrance Research and Development (R&D) started the day with a grounding exercise and exploration of the chakras through Aveda’s scents. In the afternoon, the group was joined by Jaime Perez, National Makeup Artist, Bobbi Brown for a makeup master class, showcasing how Bobbi Brown Cosmetics’ makeup and techniques can enhance one’s confidence.

Following the training, ELC hosted a salon reception to bring together leaders from across industries and sectors to learn more about HOPE’s mission and impact. This special evening included a curated archives display to highlight ELC’s long-term presence in New York City and key social impact initiatives.

The week culminated with the annual Latina History Day New York luncheon, with ELC as a co-title sponsor, attended by leaders from across private and public sectors. Anna Klein, Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs delivered sponsorship remarks on behalf of ELC, sharing anecdotes and the impact of the longstanding partnership between ELC and HOPE. Participants gathered for the release of HOPE’s inaugural Latina Representation in New York Government Report, made possible, in part, by ELC. The report took stock of the representation of Latinas in local and state government across New York, emphasizing that nearly 10% of the state is Latina, making them the 2nd largest ethnic group in the state. HOPE’s report advocated for more equal representation throughout government and decisions regarding policy. Upon recent updates to how data is collected for the U.S. Census, there is hope that New Yorkers will continue to elect more women and people of color in public office.

Throughout the Latina History Day gatherings, attendees received a variety of products across ELC’s portfolio, such as Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Estée Lauder, M·A·C and Tom Ford.

ELC is committed to helping build a world where there are limitless possibilities for all women and girls. In recent years, women, and in particular Latinas and other women of color, continue to face compounding obstacles to their advancement. To make the greatest impact, the company aims to partner with organizations that drive societal, systemic change toward equity and opportunities for women and girls.
