In the last few months, it has been all change for Super Smash Bros tournaments. Nintendo has introduced a tighter licencing system, requiring organizers to sign up to run an event of a decent size. We’ve so far seen some regions get on board with the changes. Most recently, European Smash Tournament applications have opened up.
The new Smash Tournament restrictions were brought in a little while ago and caused a fair bit of concern. It seemed like running any kind of major Smash event would mean having to get an official licence. That’s something which was more difficult in the past. Since opening for some regions though, organizers have found the system has been simplified and many more events are receiving official licences than were expected. With the European Smash Tournament applications open, organizers can finally cement their plans for 2024 in Smash Bros.

European Smash Tournament Applications Open Now
The latest region to get their Smash tournament applications opened is Europe! Tournaments taking place in the EU and the United Kingdom can now begin the process of getting an official tournament licence. These licences are now a requirement to run a Smash event of a certain size or use sponsorships. They’re basically necessary for running tournaments.
At first glance, the restrictions did feel like they would cut down on the number of tournaments or limit them. However, since their first unveiling, it has seemed like the process has become easier. Nintendo is even giving out licences for Melee, for some reason choosing Smash 4 as the banned Smash game for tournaments this time.
With the tournament application process now open, European organizers will have a firmer idea of what they can run in 2024. While the new licence system does impose some roadblocks, hopefully, European organizers are able to get their licences sorted to run events this
