The Origins of a Broadway Classic
“Sweeney Todd,” featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim along with a book by Hugh Wheeler, made its debut on Broadway back in 1979. This musical masterpiece is derived from a play created in 1970 that itself draws inspiration from a character featured in an English penny dreadful serial published as early as 1846. Excitingly, it saw its revival on Broadway last year with a remarkable production led by singer Josh Groban.
Cinematic Adaptation
The tale was also brought to life on film through Tim Burton’s direction in 2007, starring prominent actors such as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and Alan Rickman.
Meet the Talented Cast Behind Blue Masques’ Production
The stellar cast includes Noah Lake portraying Sweeney Todd; Cheyanne Metzger as Mrs. Lovett; Anthony Catarelli playing Anthony Hope; Olivia Sulzer as Johanna; John Ellis portraying Tobias Ragg; Owen Karlson as Judge Turpin; Hannah Schmidt takes on the role of Beggar Woman; Jarell Gilliam plays Beadle; Diego Puluc embodies Adolfo Pirelli; while Damon Lecann represents Jonas Fogg.
