Fincher’s “The Killer” Has Solid Debut

Netflix

David Fincher’s newest film “The Killer” made a pretty decent debut on Netflix, the film topping the Top 10 chart for the week of November 6th-12th despite being only available for three days of that week (from November 10th).

The film pulled in 27.9 million total views in its first three days – 55.7 million hours viewed in total – worldwide. It marks the biggest debut for a Netflix film since the Gal Gadot-led killer bowed to 33.1 million views in its opening weekend in early August.

Only a handful of films have debuted to higher view numbers this year on the service including “You People” (28.3 million views), “Luther: The Fallen Sun” (30.6 million), “The Mother” (42.6 million), “Extraction 2” (42.8 million), “Murder Mystery 2” (43.4 million). Views are calculated as hours divided by runtime in hours.

The film is based on a graphic novel by Alexis Nolent and Luc Jacamon and follows a professional assassin (Michael Fassbender) lost in a world without a moral compass. He’s alone, armed to the teeth, and slowly losing his mind as he awaits his next target.

After a fateful near-miss, he soon battles his employers and finds himself on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal. Fincher has been developing the project for around sixteen years.

Tilda Swinton, Arliss Howard, Charles Parnell, and Sophie Charlotte also star in the film which is available everywhere on the streamer. Andrew Kevin Walker penned the script while Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross did the score.
