Flo Milli Pops Her Sh*t With NPR ‘Tiny Desk’ Performance

Flo’s performance is just the latest in NPR’s month-long Black Music Month celebration.

Flo Milli has finally blessed NPR’s Tiny Desk with her presence and gave fans a performance of tracks from her young catalog. The Alabama native hit the mini stage with Atlanta’s Band of Brothers musicians to celebrate the outlet’s Black Music Month-flavored show. She came out the gate swinging and didn’t stop the flurry of hits until the end of her set.

Backed by the Floettes, Milli performed new renditions of fan-favorite hits such as “Conceited,” “Bed Time,” “In The Party,” and even her breakthrough smash, “Beef FloMix”—a song which the rapper took some time to shed some light on. “This next song was my first song to ever blow up. I wrote this in my mom’s house [when] I was 18. This is my baby,” she said to the audience.

Flo Milli then switched it up, bringing her Tiny Desk concert to an end with “Weak” and even an acoustic version of “Never Lose Me,” which curiously includes an unreleased verse from the artist. “Keep me a Haitian, I love me a Zoe/ When I get ’round him, I act like a h*e/ He want a sl*t, I feel like Amber Rose/ Yeah, make a bi**h touch her toes/ Hit from the back, I want more/ Ni**a, I love when you choke,” she spit.

Flo Milli is just the latest in NPR’s Black Music Month performances, which feature all-women. Bobby Carter, host and producer for Tiny Desk, spoke about their decision to incorporate more ladies for this year’s celebration.

“As the first week started to roll out last year with Charlie Wilson and Babyface, it occurred to me that we were leading with all men. And to be honest, most of the bands that I aimed for, and most of the bands and the artists that I am most excited about from the legacy side, are women. So this time last year, I knew that we wanted to bring an all-female-led lineup this year,” Carter told ESSENCE.

“So, this sort of occurred to me this time last year like, ‘Wow, it’s too many dudes,’ and I want to really go for it this year, and really honor the women that helped shape Black music to me, which is all music. I knew this was going to be something that we would do last year.”

The media organization has welcomed Brittney Spencer, Tierra Whack, Tems, and Chaka Khan to the tiny stage for the celebration thus far.
