Benjamin Mendy, a former Manchester City football player, was found not guilty of both counts of attempted and actual rape at Chester Crown Court.
After a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court, the 28-year-old sobbed as the jury foreman announced the not-guilty findings. His head was on his knees as he sank to his seat, wiping away tears with a white tissue after standing for the verdicts.
Mendy was exonerated of trying to [email protected] a lady in October 2018 at his £4 million property in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire. The victim was 29 years old at the time. His contract with the Premier League champions expired on July 1. He was also cleared of raping a second, 24-year-old lady.

The court heard that the French football player allegedly informed her later, “it’s fine, I’ve had sex with 10,000 women.”
Before issuing their judgments, the jury of six men and six women deliberated for around three hours and fifteen minutes. In response, Chief Judge Steven Everett said, “Mr. Mendy can be released from the dock.”
His trial was a retrial after a jury earlier this year exonerated him of all charges related to six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving four young women or teenagers. The trial lasted six months.
On the two counts of rape and attempted rape that he was retried on, the jury was unable to reach a verdict.
