He performed and taught primarily in the United States.

At 14, Michaels won the Australian Broadcasting Commission’s concerto competition, becoming the youngest performer to do so.
He made his first recording at this young age, which sold out within weeks of its release.
Michaels’ education included studying at the Curtis Institute of Music under the guidance of Efrem Zimbalist and Oscar Shumsky.

Geoffrey Michaels’ career was distinguished with membership in the Curtis String Quartet and notable performances, including the US premiere of Alfred Schnittke’s Concerto Grosso and Arvo Pärt’s Tabula Rasa for Two Violins and Strings at Lincoln Center in New York City.
He also collaborated with pianist and composer Roger Smalley and was a founding member of the Liebesfreud Quartet.
Sadly, Geoffrey Michaels passed away at the age of 79 on February 20, 2024.
