Under the watchful eye of Master Artisan Tom Murphy, the Gibson Custom Shop has developed specialized tools and technology to create expertly aged guitars that give you the opportunity to play a piece of history. Expertly aged, down to the last detail, each Murphy Lab acoustic guitar is a unique, handcrafted work of art with the character, vibe, and feel of an original, vintage instrument.

Luthiers at the Gibson Acoustic craftory in Bozeman, Montana, have applied Murphy Lab Light Aging to five Custom Shop models that represent a ‘greatest hits’ of popular music history. From the haunting Dust Bowl-era tones of the 1933 L-00, to the iconic midrange punch of the 1942 Banner J-45 and Southern Jumbo, to the famed projection of the 1957 SJ-200, and the rock ’n’ roll swagger of the 1960 Hummingbird, the Murphy Lab Acoustic line-up reads like a who’s who of the most recorded and most familiar acoustic guitars of all time.

If the impact of Gibson Custom’s Murphy Lab lacquer was a game-changer in the electric guitar world then just wait until you hear and feel how it transforms an acoustic instrument, both physically and sonically. With the addition of thermally aged tops and lightly aged hardware, Murphy Lab Acoustic guitars beautifully simulate decades of light playwear, kickstarting the aging process and delivering the comfortable feel of an old friend, straight out of the box. Well-worn favorites, built brand new.
