The Oilers are looking for a miracle solution in front of the net.
The Alberta outfit is off to an atrocious start to the season, and their goaltenders aren’t delivering the goods. It’s in this context that we’ve discussed at length the possibility of Ken Holland (Oilers GM) turning to Kent Hughes to find said miracle solution, because the Habs have three NHL goaltenders in their line-up at the moment.
Pierre LeBrun, one of the NHL’s best informants, spoke about the issue earlier today on BPM Sports.
And LeBrun was quick to point out that the Oilers and Habs haven’t talked lately, after being asked by Georges Laraque if the Edmonton team had any interest in Samuel Montembeault:

Interesting stuff.
In fact, last week, Elliotte Friedman was saying that the Oilers were interested in the Canadiens’ three goaltenders.
Has that changed since then?
The season is progressing rapidly and the Oilers will have to find a solution before it’s too late. Already, after twenty games, they find themselves 30th in the league standings…
If Edmonton’s woes continue, we can expect a deal to be struck. After all, the Oilers have high expectations, and it would be ridiculous for Ken Holland to insist on keeping his roster intact when he has the luxury of two of the best players in the world.
