You can soon have full-fledged conversations with Google’s Gemini on your phone.
Right inside Google Messages on Android smartphones, the AI chatbot formerly known as Bard will soon be available to access, the company announced Monday alongside the wave of news coming out of Mobile World Congress (MWC).
The feature is being released gradually to beta testers, who can add Gemini to their messaging app if they’re over 18. Currently, the chatbot is only available in English in certain markets and in French within Canada only.
Within Messages, Gemini can be used to write drafts, plan events, or just have a chat. And to get it, you’ll need a Google account, the latest version of the Google Messages app, and a Pixel 6 or later, Pixel Fold, Samsung Galaxy S22 or later, or the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Z Fold.
Gemini has just undergone a rebrand by Google, with its new name and an apparent step forward in efficiency. But the tool has recently come under scrutiny — just last week it was the center of controversy, after Gemini was found to be generating pictures of Nazi soldiers as people of color.
