Haryana: 400-year-old bronze idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi unearthed

As per the latest news reports, during routine construction excavation in Baghanki village near Manesar, Haryana, three bronze idols dating back 400 years were unearthed, portraying Hindu deities Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi.

Initially concealed by the plot owner, the idols were later handed over to the Archaeology Department, halting construction for further examination. Measuring approximately 1.5 ft, a standing idol of Lord Vishnu and a 1-foot-tall seated idol of Goddess Lakshmi, alongside a joint idol depicting both deities, were discovered at a depth of 15 ft.

Upon notification, authorities from the Archaeology Department, including Deputy Director Banani Bhattacharya and Dr. Kush Dhebar, took possession of the idols. Despite villagers’ desires to construct a temple on the plot and requests for ownership, the department asserted that the idols are government property and will be preserved in their museum after laboratory analysis.

If reports are to go by, further excavation is planned to explore the possibility of additional artifacts buried beneath the site. Preliminary examinations suggest the idols to be around 400 years old, showcasing their historical significance in a region with a rich cultural heritage.

A local doctor in Manesar’s Mohammadpur Baghanki stumbled upon the ancient bronze statues of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, believed to be around 400 years old or even older. Discovered while digging a well on his land, the statues have been transported to a laboratory for further research, with officials anticipating confirmation of their precise age after thorough investigation.

Deputy Director Banani Bhattacharyya of the state department of archaeology and museums mentioned that science will be employed to determine the age of the statues. Initial findings suggest that these bronze artifacts may indeed be an astounding 400 years old.

The Vishnu idol, standing at 1.5 feet tall, and the seated Lakshmi idol, measuring about 1 foot, exhibit intricate carvings and designs typical of the era they are believed to originate from. Additionally, a joint idol portraying Vishnu and Lakshmi together was found. The discovery has brought joy to the local community, who perceive it as a divine blessing. With growing curiosity, more individuals flock to the site daily, eager to witness the enchanting aura of Vishnu and Lakshmi’s divine presence.
