How to Train Your Dragon’s live action adaptation looks set to have Gerard Butler once again take on the role of Hiccup’s father Stoick the Vast, chief of the Hairy Hooligan Viking tribe.

As reported by Deadline, Butler will join Mason Thames and Nico Parker, who are the new actors set to take on the roles of Hiccup and Astrid, respectively.

Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera voiced Hiccup and Astrid in the original films, but the characters are said to be 15 at the time of the first film and the original came out back in 2010. As for Stoick, he was said to be 45 in the first film, meaning it won’t be as much trouble for Butler to step back into that role.

This adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon is said to soar into theaters on June 13, 2025, and will see Dean DeBlois directing, writing, and producing the film. DeBlois was also the director and writer of the three films in the original animated trilogy.

The How to Train Your Dragon franchise has been a huge hit for Universal Pictures and has grossed more than $1.6 billion since that first film arrived.

As for Butler, who may be best known for his portrayal of King Leonidas in 300 and has Mike Banning in the Has Fallen franchise, most recently appeared in Plane and Kandahar.
