The countdown to March Madness is on, as Caitlin Clark and the country’s best female basketball players head toward this year’s tournament at the Rocket Mortgage Field House in Cleveland.
The LSU Tigers are the defending national champions, after taking down the Iowa Hawkeyes in last year’s tournament. Both teams are still ranked in the AP’s Top Ten as of this writing, though South Carolina and Stanford sit atop the list.

2023-24 Women’s College Basketball Season: Teams, Odds, Predictions
There are a number of schools with decent odds to make it to the Final Four this year, including South Carolina, UCLA, Colorado, Kansas State, Iowa and Stanford.
Stanford is led by coach Tara Vanderveer, who recently became the winningest coach in college basketball history, with her 1,203rd win with the Cardinal. Now into her 38th season at Stanford, VanDerveer broke the record of former Duke men’s head coach, Mike Krzyzewski.
The country’s best female college basketball player, meantime, is arguably Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, who led the Hawkeyes to the Big Dance last year. Iowa was ultimately defeated by Angel Reese and Louisiana State in the finals, and Reese is back for her junior season with the team.
Other top players to watch include Stanford’s Cameron Brink; Colorado’s Jaylyn Sherrod; two-time reigning ACC player of the year, Elizabeth Kitley; 2023 Pac-12 player of the year Alissa Pili; and UConn’s Paige Bueckers, who is poised to once again top the scoreboards as she returns from injury.
Catch all the action and stream NCAA women’s basketball games online through ESPN+ or watch the games live on DirecTV Stream.
