After a very long gestational history, “Triple Frontier” was finally shot and released to the world in 2019 as a Netflix original film.
The story followed a group of former U.S. Army Delta Force operators who reunite to plan a heist of a South American crime lord. Helmed by J.C. Chandor for a budget of $115 million, reception was quite good.
The film reportedly pulled in over 52 million viewers in its first month. Still, as launches go it seemed a relatively quiet one. However in the years since, it seems to have hung on a bit – buoyed by its increasingly famous five main cast members which were Ben Affleck, Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal.
Now, speaking to The Mary Sue whilst out promoting “Rebel Moon,” Hunnam has confirmed rumors from a few months back – that a sequel is on the way and he is working with Netflix to develop it:
“Nothing guaranteed, but I just set up recently as the main producer on a potential sequel to ‘Triple Frontier’ at Netflix. So we’re working on that. It’s in its absolute infancy, but I feel like I’ve got a lot more to say about the sort of after life of military personnel. I’m really hopeful.”
The obvious question is who would be back? Many of these actors are now in greater demand than they were five years ago, especially Pascal who was arguably the least known at the time of the original’s making, so getting the team back together could be tricky.
