The ‘Conflict of Interest’ Final
Just yesterday, Complexity’s parent company GameSquare confirmed its future acquisition of FaZe Clan later this year. Now, the two teams will meet on the server, in what is being dubbed by fans as the ‘conflict of interest’ final. It’s too early to tell what this means for the future of these two rosters, both of whom have been mainstays of the Counter-Strike scene for some time now. Still, it’s funny how things work out.
Will this match actually matter in the grand scheme of this? Probably not. But we propose a situation. The IEM Sydney Finals – winner takes all, and the loser leaves CS for good (we’re kidding, obviously).
Who Will Win IEM Sydney?
It’s time to get serious and ask, who will win IEM Sydney 2023? Between FaZe and Complexity, you could make a compelling argument for either based on showings so far. For us, this IEM Sydney Final is going to be a stomp for FaZe Clan. They’ve looked genuinely unstoppable in recent matches, the most convincing of which came in a 13:0 against ENCE.
FaZe have been innovators at the start of CS2. Their new Inferno CT mid-smoke is already considered to be meta, and they’ve embraced the peek-or-be-peeked mechanics that Counter-Strike 2 encourages for aggressive players like rain. Twistzz has rediscovered his motivation for the new game, with his mechanics looking better than ever, and ropz looks right at home already.
All in all, the IEM Sydney Finals look set up for a FaZe Clan victory.
The Argument for Complexity
Even if we think FaZe are primed for success in the IEM Sydney Finals, there’s an argument to be made for Complexity, too. They’ve had to beat Cloud9, Monte, BetBoom Team, and G2 to reach this stage, so it’s no fluke run.
For Complexity to emerge victorious, they’ll need a ton of individual brilliance. In this regard, they’ve looked great so far. Let’s take a look at the K/D ratio of the entire Complexity roster during IEM Sydney 2023:
Grim: 1.23
EliGE: 1.15
floppy: 1.12
hallzerk: 1.06
JT: 1.03
Numbers don’t always tell the full story, but clearly Complexity’s stars are consistently fragging in Sydney. The prospect of FaZe Clan is a tougher task than they’ve faced so far, but there are signs they can get the job done.
Our final prediction: FaZe 2:0 Complexity.
