Following the official title announcement and trailer the other day, the director of the upcoming “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” video game, Jerk Gustafsson, has given an official interview with Lucasfilm to discuss what players can expect.
Gustafsson says a great cirlce is a circle dividing a sphere in half – the Equator being an example of one. He explains one such circle connects key historical sites – the Pyramids at Giza, the Nazca Lines in Peru, Easter Island in the South Pacific, and the ruins of Sukhothai in Thailand.
Thus, Dr. Jones will be visiting each of those locations to unravel the clues and find out what ties them together. He confirms the action starts around a year after the events of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and just after Indy’s separation from Marion Ravenwood with the game to explore that point in his life.
In combat, Machine Games isn’t going to make Indy a super soldier though he will be agile and tough with a heavy focus on improvisation and some whip work. He adds: “When you overcome the numerous obstacles in your way, it takes a lot of effort and hard work, like a real human being.”
One of the biggest points of discussion regarding the game has been the heavy use of first-person perspective like the “Wolfenstein” games which the developer is behing. Some glimpses of some third person elements can be seen in the trailer too.
Gustafsson says the reasons for the first-person element is that it’s both a core part of how the developers work, and it separates the game from many other action-adventure titles. However the game also aims to have a “seamless flow between first-person gameplay and third-person actions, events, and cinematics”.
