Nineteen days after it first opened worldwide, Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” has passed the coveted $1 billion mark at the global box-office with an estimated $1,014.8 billion haul.
It’s the first film of 2024 to reach that milestone, and more impressively snagged that record faster than any other animated movie ever – besting “Frozen 2” which took 25 days to hit the $1 billion mark.
It also marks the eighth animated film of Disney and Pixar combined to have passed the $1 billion mark, only three other animated films outside those companies have done so (“The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Minions,” “Despicable Me 3”).
In its third weekend the film sits at a total of $469 million domestically and $546 million internationally. Domestically it has overtaken the likes of “The Lion King,” “Shrek 2” and the last two “Toy Story” films and still has plenty more to go.
Though the film seemed to be in a bit of close race with “A Quiet Part: Day One” yesterday to win the weekend, the Pixar film has moved in front and has beaten it by $57.4 million to $53 million.
After so many weekends of underperforming films, this marks the fourth weekend in a row with titles that are overindexing, and things may continue as we head into the July 4th holiday weekend this coming week.
