Oscar winner J.K. Simmons will play legendary comedian Milton Berle in Jason Reitman’s upcoming “SNL 1975” feature at Sony Pictures.
He marks one of several final additions to the cast of the feature, others hopping on include Joe Chrest as Herb Sargent, Taylor Gray as Al Franken, Mcabe Gregg as Tom Davis, and Billy Bryk in an unannounced role.
“The Fabelmans” breakout Gabriel LaBelle leads the ensemble as producer Lorne Michaels in the film which unfolds on the night of October 11th, 1975 when a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever – producing the first ever episode of “Saturday Night Live”.
Other on screen roles include Dan Aykroyd (played by Dylan O’Brien), Rosie Shuster (Rachel Sennott), Garret Morris (Lamorne Morris), Jim Henson (Nicholas Braun), John Belushi (Matt Wood), Chevy Chase (Cory Michael Smith) and Billy Crystal (Nicholas Podany).
The film reportedly unfolds in real time and deals with the behind-the-scenes moments in the hour-and-a-half leading up to the first broadcast. Reitman and Gil Kenan wrote the script after conducting interviews with all living cast, writers, and crew of SNL.
